Miss Representation - A Flim

  1. Some powerful clips (mostly from Fox -- shocking). The "You can't be what you can't see" line really says it all. Almost every supposedly gender-neutral narrative you see in entertainment is male driven. I know I talk about comics a lot, but they're a very good example: Take the Justice League or The Avengers. They feature just one or two female characters at a time, and a lot of the time they are objectified. "The Avengers" movie out next year features 4 male superheroes and 1 superheroine, and one of her big scenes in last year's "Iron Man 2"? A tracking shot of her butt. When would you EVER see a camera following a male character's butt? (hopefully never, but the point still stands)
